# Restaurant product / ingredient stock rule

- Restaurant menu products are finished products and do not have their own stock balance.
- The product form only requires a selling price for pricing; cost/stock/reorder controls are hidden for Restaurant department products.
- Recipe products consume stock from ingredient products when billed.
- Ingredients remain stock-controlled and carry cost, unit, opening stock, reorder level and expiry information.
- Non-restaurant stocked products (for example Bar products) retain their existing stock controls.
- Existing restaurant non-ingredient products are forced to `track_stock = 0` by migration `2026_10_04_000002_restaurant_products_use_ingredient_stock`.
